The Chicago Blackhawks acquired Brandon Pirri in a trade with the Vegas Golden Knights on Monday, reuniting the forward with his first NHL team.

The Blackhawks sent Dylan Sikura to Vegas for the 29-year-old Pirri, who split last season between the Golden Knights and Chicago of the American Hockey League. The forward had two assists in 16 games with Vegas, and 15 goals and 20 assists in 38 games with Chicago.

The Detroit Red Wings acquired defenseman Marc Staal and a second-round draft pick from the New York Rangers for future considerations Saturday.

The draft pick is in 2021. The 33-year-old Staal had two goals and nine assists in 52 games this past season. He has played his whole 13-season NHL career so far with the Rangers.

"Marc Staal has been an exemplary hockey player, teammate and person from the moment he joined the New York Rangers organization," Rangers President John Davidson said. "A consummate professional, Marc's perseverance and dedication to the game made him such an integral part of our organization."

Patric Hornqvist's grit helped the Penguins win a pair of Stanley Cups. To keep their championship window open, they decided it was time to move on without him.

The Penguins traded the 33-year-old right winger to the Florida Panthers on Thursday in exchange for defenseman Mike Matheson and center Colton Sceviour.

Kevyn Adams didn't have to do too much homework on center Eric Staal in completing his first trade as Buffalo Sabres general manager.

A former NHL player, Adams had plenty of firsthand insight on the 17-year veteran going back to their days as teammates with the 2006 Stanley Cup champion Carolina Hurricanes.

"Eric Staal has had a world-class career," Adams said Wednesday, shortly after acquiring Staal in a trade that sent forward Marcus Johansson to the Minnesota Wild.

The Carolina Hurricanes parted ways with defenseman Joel Edmundson after one season, trading his free-agent rights to the Montreal Canadiens on Saturday for a fifth-round pick.

The Minnesota Wild acquired center Nick Bjugstad on Friday from the Pittsburgh Penguins for a conditional selection in the 2021 NHL draft, a swap that includes the Penguins covering an unspecified portion of Bjugstad's $5.25 million salary next season.

The St. Louis Blues traded goalie Jake Allen to the Montreal Canadiens on Wednesday, shedding cap space before a critical offseason.

Montreal acquired Allen, 30, and a 2022 seventh-round pick in return for a third-round pick in 2020 (previously acquired from Washington) and a seventh-round pick in 2020 (previously acquired from Chicago).
